Battling my demons

Even though I deconverted some time ago, I still have days when the fire and brimstone comes back to haunt me. Catholicism really is one bitch of a virus. Takes a lot of time to get over. Since I've been on here I'm making progress though. This is the first time that it's happened when I didn't break down or start praying. Five days, no kool aid consumed.

Had a discussion with an FB acquaintance of mine over this not too long ago. It's a natural thing as I see it, and as a person who was raised by Southern Baptists with Catholic influences I can wholly empathize. For some it just takes more time to disengage yourself from a fear that has been instilled in you through years upon years of mental beatdowns, so don't sweat it, Neim. I can't tell you how many nightmares I've had growing up about hell and torture in the pit. 

It'll pass eventually.
