People can desire the priesthood for any number of reasons that have nothing to do with having a legitimate vocation.

I have not met any "fake priests" - at least not to my knowledge - because there aren't any. Once a man is ordained, he IS a priest.

At issue is whether some that WERE ordained should have been.

This is less certain.

You are completely missing the point,people get the desire to be a priest because of the calling from Jesus - It doesn't matter how you try to put it - That's the truth.
Why do you say that someone might desire priesthood for any number of reasons? Can you state the "any number of reasons"?
I'd also like to know how you came to know about these "any number of reasons".

People are that deluded. Concerning people and priesthood people legitimately think some higher being want's them to be a priest.
As for the other reasons simple money i mean look at how con artists use religion. There is multiple other reasons as well like catholic priests in the vatican. 
Some use that position to spread hate and bigotry and that is just coming off the top of my head.
