If we removed religion out of the world, you will still have people who fuck animals, but I have a sneaking suspicion that they will still be few and far between. Altruism is actually part of the evolutionary process, not of religion. If we removed religion out of the world, murder, stealing, cheating, harming others, lying, etc...would still SEEM intrinsically wrong on various levels, and there will still be people who break the law, etc. But, perhaps you believe that a god instilled in all of us this ability to discern right from wrong...an examination of conscience, if you will. But, you know what is funny, the only thing that separates you from atheists, is ....belief. If you stop believing, does god go away? It would seem that way, so how objectively real and moral can he be?
My faith teaches us about Natural Law, which is an inherent, basic sense of right from wrong that all people have (unless they are crazy or something). So you are correct in your paragraph above in regards to what I believe.
So yes, we all know that doing anything sexual with animals is wrong even if it doesn't hurt them in any way. It doesn't take a religious person to know this, just as it doesn't take a religious person to know that murder, stealing, cheating, lying, etc, are wrong. My faith doesn't teach me bestiality is wrong, because I already know it is wrong. But it provides me with a deeper understanding of why this is wrong.
So my question on this thread was for someone who doesn't have that same religious based understanding of why this is wrong, to share their reasons for why they think it's wrong.
Why is it wrong, according to your faith?
