Catholic_Lady, I grew up in the Catholic faith. I would be lying if I told you I still don't have 'issues' with the RCC. But, I'm evolving. lol That said, when I was a Catholic, I looked at atheism as a mysterious concept. It didn't make sense to me, and seemed so far off from what I believed. But, at the end of it all, we are very much alike. Most of us here wouldn't hurt others, simply because it'd be wrong to do. Now that I'm no longer religious, (and my path to atheism wasn't immediate) ...I see atheism in a vastly different light than when I was viewing it through the lens of Catholicism. Although, Pope Francis states that all atheists will go to heaven. That's so nice of him.
Haha. Well I have a few friends who are atheist, but we never talk about religion much. You are right, that at the end of the day, most people atheist or theist, are similar in the ways that matter most - we all think it's wrong to hurt others, whether physically, verbally, emotionally, etc. The differences are on things that don't matter as much in the grand scheme of things, and sometimes the differences are on how we came to the same conclusions. Those differences intrigue me and its fun to talk about if people can be civil and respectful of different views.
"Of course, everyone will claim they respect someone who tries to speak the truth, but in reality, this is a rare quality. Most respect those who speak truths they agree with, and their respect for the speaking only extends as far as their realm of personal agreement. It is less common, almost to the point of becoming a saintly virtue, that someone truly respects and loves the truth seeker, even when their conclusions differ wildly."
