I saw a blurb the other day that went something like "If we don't teach cursive, they won't be able to read historical documents.", but that's a pretty lame argument when you think about it (heiroglyphs, cuneiform, Latin). Sounds good though at first glance.
I can't remember where this verse is from, I think it got removed from canon:
