By the revelation of God. When I met God I didn't have any expectations of who He was or who He should be. When He told me about himself I accepted it and what He told me about Himself I have never found to be a lie. I have had some faulty ideas of who I thought He was but that was my fault and He has corrected me. There was a time when I was thinking about the trinity and how it worked and God said, "That is not who I am" not that He wasn't a triune God but the way I was think about the trinity was incorrect. God actually wants you to know Him not just about Him. With sin in the way we can not have a relationship with God. That is one of the reasons why He died and rose for the payment of our sins. When a person repent accept His payment for his/her sins and make God his/her Lord and Savior then there can be a formulation of a relationship.
