padraic like I said it's a pretty stupid tradition.I am shocked they did not take the entire ritual and drag it into todays practice.
Esther 4:1:
1.When Mordecai perceived all that was done, Mordecai rent his clothes, and put on sackcloth with ashes, and went out into the midst of the city, and cried with a loud and a bitter cry;
They forgot to rip their damn clothes off and weep uncontrollably!! Lol
