Atlas, I am very aware of the context. I'm also aware of mistranslated translations of the word "fa". For example, you put it as "and" while it really means "so/therefore".
But let's give an example, if the Prophet said:
Verily Allah appointed the family of Ibrahim as leaders, and who turned away from their guidance was in hell, and those who followed them benefited from their leadership. O you who believe Obey God and obey me and the Leaders from you. Verily people you are required to obey me to the extent you refer all disputes back to my judgement. And indeed people were always required to obey the Prophets by God's permission and all Prophets were sent to be obeyed. Indeed who obeys me has indeed obeyed God.
You talk about context, but anyone in their right mind would say here leaders in any type leader or that the obedience here is not absolute and doesn't include spiritual authority?
Now let's look at the context, as you in own words, the context is important:
"Have you not seen a portion of those who were given a portion of the book, they believe in the Jibt (sorcery) and Taghut (inordinate false authority) and say these are more guided then those who believe. Or do they have a share in the authority then they would not give the people at date stone. Or do they envy the people for what God has given them out his grace, so then indeed we gave the family of Ibrahim the book, the wisdom, and gave them a great authority. So of them is who believed in it and of them of is who turned away from it, and sufficient is hell as a burning. Indeed those who disbelieve in God's Ayat (Signs/revelations/guidance), soon we will enter them the fire, so as often their skins are thoroughly burned, we will change them for other skins, that they taste the chastisement, surely God is Mighty, Wise. As for those who believe and do good deeds, we will make them enter gardens beneath which rivers flow, to abide in them for ever, they shall have therein pure mater, and we shall make them enter a dense shade. Verily Allah commands you to make over the trusts to to their owners and that when they judge between people you judge with justice, surely Allah admonishes you with what is excellent surely Allah is seeing, Hearing. O You who believe, obey God and obey the Messenger and those who possess the Command/Authority from you, therefore if you dispute with regards to a thing, refer it to God and the Messenger if you believe in God and the last day, that is better and most suitable at the end. Have you not seen those who assert that they believe in what has been revealed to you and what was revealed before you? They desire to summon one another to the judgment of the Taghut, though they were commanded to deny it, and the Shaitan desires to lead them astray into a remote error. And when it is said to them: Come to what God has revealed and to the Messenger, you will see the hypocrites turning away from you with (utter) aversion. But how will it be when misfortune befalls them on account of what their hands have sent before? Then they will come to you swearing by God: We did not desire (anything) but good and concord. These are they of whom God knows what is in their hearts; therefore turn aside from them and admonish them, and speak to them effectual words concerning themselves. And We did not send any messenger but that he should be obeyed by God's permission; and had they, when they were unjust to themselves, come to you and asked forgiveness of God and the Messenger had (also) asked forgiveness for them, they would have found God Oft-returning (to mercy), Merciful.
Now God is going to judge between us who is twisting the verse out of it's place.
Let's give an example of how translating the word "fa" into therefore/so changes the meaning.
Eat fruits and vegetables they are good for you therefore eat your orange and carrot.
Does not mean not to eat other fruits and vegetables. But say given you have an orange and carrot with you or they are available, it's telling you eat them.
Likewise
Listen to your teachers in school therefore do the homework Mr. Fleming assigns you.
Doesn't mean you don't do the homework other teachers assign. Perhaps Mr. Fleming is your main teacher at that time, doesn't mean the next year, you don't listen to your teacher.
