Secondly, "GMT" is not a synonym for "time in the UK". It depends on the time of year. For the summer (between last Sunday of March and last Sunday of October), the UK is on BST (British Summer Time). This is one hour ahead of GMT. The rest of the year, the UK is on GMT.
Since we're within the summer period, the UK is on BST.
So 5:30pm EST is 10:30pm BST at the moment.
