My point is, the "care" provided to prisoners isn't free to them; they have to work for it. Prison is a punishment; you are locked up and made to work. The reason why we have to provide shelter and food is because we have to contain the prisoners for the public good, and that means actually looking after them as well, since we don't believe in the death penalty, let alone the death penalty for any crime committed.

Further, why would anyone want to go to prison, that's just whack and illogical thinking.

Hey, you said it: "why are we treating our criminals better than law abiding citizens?"

If this were the case, why aren't people lining up to get into prison? What is illogical is your blanket statement that criminals are better treated than law abiding citizens, which is clearly not the case.
