I don't think he's saying that schizophrenia is in your imagination; I think he's saying that schizophrenia hijacks your imagination and fucks up the separator between the part of your imagination that day-dreams and the part of your imagination that is responsible for turning your perceptions into a map of reality. If the brain starts throwing purely imaginary things in with the "real" stuff, you get hallucination, which is a common symptom of schizophrenia (and religion).
