Let me cut you off there, and give you some good answers
1: It can in some forms increase the level of calm, not unlike those 'inner peace' religions. Ie: at a dinner table, the exercise of blessing food and praying for health appears to have a relaxing affect upon many of the people at the table.
2: the experience is likely euphoric, if it is anything at all similar to my really really hoping that Russian will be available
3: coping mechanism, should be self-explanatory.
4: In the event that it actually did work, it has some capacity to do things that those praying might actually believe they are helping to accomplish. Although I don't believe praying works, some people do think it works, and many of those people believe they are doing a good thing. It's a nice feeling, much akin to donating, or helping an old lady across a street, or holding a door open for someone else to walk through?
If you ask 14 questions in rapid succession, without letting the person you are asking them of answer, I should think you are simply being rude.
How about I ask a question, Doubtie (like the new name, btw): The feeling one gets from donating... from helping.... from caring... that's a feeling one can expect when they believe their prayers are doing good... helping. Would you want to deprive people of that feeling?
Please give me a home where cloud buffalo roam
Where the dear and the strangers can play
Where sometimes is heard a discouraging word
But the skies are not stormy all day
