Sad as it would be to see the only other remaining atheist forum with any activity die, AF.com really has done more than enough to deserve it. They don't enforce their own rules with any degree of consistency, although they have about as many on staff as this one to cover 1/4 of the activity. The professionalism of the staff varies, but those who are the most high profile with staff actions, which do appear to be very unilateral and subject to (bad) individual staff personality are rampant loose cannons - the highly opinionated and blunt sort of person who provokes with grumpy mockery or heated arguments any with whom they disagree, just to set up the excuse to ban said user when he takes the bait is absolutely the wrong sort of person to have on forum staff anywhere, yet these few members are doing exactly that. Wolf must have a few screws loose to allow his staff to be so petty and send people away like that when his site is hemmoraging membership! The quality of the remaining members suffers as a result of the culture which AF.com has created: although there are some fine people there, it is generally less mature, and few have much in the way of highly-developed argument skill. You can be a complete idiot and break every rule of civil discourse on that site, so long as you don't disagree any issue which a mod has an opinion on (not related in any way to forum administration). As Peacewithoutgod, I had almost 1000 posts on that site over six months, and the stagnant culture there was damaging. When I transitioned here, I simply couldn't believe how different, and better people are, with only smart staff who don't swing the ban-hammer around like a substitute penis, or close down several threads a day just because they've decided they aren't productive or have gone off-topic.

I have to say after experiences on sites like AF.com that it's really nice to be on a site where the staff actually care about the users, and aren't there just because they enjoy throwing their weight around and crushing other people with it. Thanks, all of you!
