You either believe or you don't and there isn't a choice to be made. Once new information is available the status of a belief can change; but, not because you choose to let it.
This sums it up nicely.
If you've carefully examined the proposition that a specific God (such as the one in the Bible) exists and you conclude it does not then that's it. You can't flip belief on and off like a switch. Most of us atheists can no more believe in the Christian God than we could believe 1 + 1 = 3. What feels good or what we would like to believe is irrelevant. We've critically examined the question and the obvious conclusion is that Christianity is nonsense. Game over.
Only two things are infinite, the universe and human stupidity, and I'm not sure about the former.
