Threats of hell are pathetic and funny in a way. But it does not always end on such, as faggots should be gassed also can be heard. Women who wan't abortion also are sometimes threatened with physical violence. One could wonder how much of this is result of church indoctrination, promoted by it Manichean worldview and it's missuses of language which spawn such absurdities like unborn life which is about equaling abortion with murder.
Those ideas, though, are taken care of by societies. Faggots should be gassed are heard in YouTube comment sections, and from the most marginalized people in society. That's why they're angry.
They're not real threats. Freedom of speech includes the freedom to say truly hateful and disgusting things.
"There remain four irreducible objections to religious faith: that it wholly misrepresents the origins of man and the cosmos, that because of this original error it manages to combine the maximum servility with the maximum of solipsism, that it is both the result and the cause of dangerous sexual repression, and that it is ultimately grounded on wish-thinking." ~Christopher Hitchens, god is not Great
