Because politics is the mechanism through which to implement desired social change.
If you don't vote, that is one less voice we have against people who oppose LGBT rights, support religious conservatism, etc. Politicians (whether you like it or not) are the ones who have the power to support or fight against bigotry; we must select the right ones.
Elections for your city council and state legislature are just as important as those for President -- elected officials at all levels must be truly representative of the people.
