Not directly related to the Vatican, but I listened to this (two-part) episode of Mormon Stories last week about church abuse of children. The interview is with a lawyer who used to work sex abuse cases, many of them involving various kinds of clergy members and religious figures of authority, and he talks about the law in the US and how there are various abuse-reporting standards in each state, who is considered a mandatory reporter (if this person finds out about abuse and don't report it, they can be prosecuted as well), and how clergy, in some states, can get around mandatory reporting with "confessional" clauses and things.

You might find it interesting to listen to. I do warn you that it is long (maybe 3-ish hours of content).
It does focus a bit more on the Mormon side of things due to the focus of the podcast but it doesn't deal exclusively with them.

Teenaged X-Files obsession + Bermuda Triangle episode + Self-led school research project = Atheist.
