The perpetrator might still have a gun, despite the ban(or some other weapon).
The perpetrator might not be alone, he might have people helping him in order to overpower you no matter how skilled you are(or he might overpower you for a lot of other reasons such as being younger, more fit, better at fighting, and so on).
Yawn. Guns aren't the end-all and be-all of home defense. Come visit and I'll show you.
They aren't the only tools out there to protect yourself, but they are the best ones in some scenarios.
And your home is not the only place you'll need them.
