I don't like being labelled a nonconformist. Stop putting me in a box! It's an offense to my people... even though I don't have a people actually... so don't believe I do have one!!!
To make thing a little more clear, since the word "God" has no universal definition, stating that I believe in God or not wouldn't make any sense. I believe in my God, that's for sure, but I have to check yours to see if your God can hang out with my God.
I certainly believe in things, because believing is a part of the process of understanding.

When you got your first math lesson, you believed the teacher. You didn't know whether "1" was actually the conventional sign for "one" or not. You only knew that after being told the same thing by different people.
When a scientists emits theories, he first believes in things he imagines, then checks... then sends the paper to the colleagues. Those colleagues will read or not the paper depending on whether or not they believe they might learn something from this scientist... and then, if they check the theory, they'll believe in it until it is proven or broken...
