Except that it's not a jump...Hanky....the term was coined by psychologists to describe the anxiety, the inner conflict and it's outward consequences.

If that is so, then it looks like it was either wrongfully coined relative to what it's components say of it, or its common usage is frequently incorrect.

Then again, the usage may not necessarily apply strictly to the psychological. I noticed there's only one definition quoted from each of these 3 dictionaries, and I suspect at least one of these sources lists alternate definitions.
