Not to be overly pedantic, but I think it's more accurate to say that the root cause is ignorance, and misuse of definitions is a symptom of that.
Would also agree with that. My slant on it is that regardless of the cause, there's no interesting argument to be had.
Call it a wurzelegoop for all I care, it doesn't change my understanding of evolution.
But I suspect the theist is deliberately using equivocation to make the theory less sound less plausible. If so then that is intellectually dishonest and that's what he should be called out on. At the moment though he's the one controlling the debate by arguing about definitions.
