Due warning. The early Marx isn't the same as the late Marx, coworking with Engels, who's quite an interesting figure in his own right.
I don't have a citation. That claim is drawn from a mix of things taken on authority and a paraphrase of Marx's predictive writings about the future of capitalism. I will gladly retract the claim if you'd like.
But now I'm curious. If Marx was a philosopher, isn't what he was doing with his philosophy ultimately "useless as garbage"?
