Diaz doesn't really want the fight and will only do it for big money. Conor would do it for less because it's his reputation that he's fighting to regain.
But there another factor that I think may sway the UFC's hand. Dana didn't want Conor to do the rematch, I guess because he's afraid Conor will get beaten again. Conor wants the rematch but Dana wants him to play it safe and go back down to his weight division.
I think Dana may use this as a way to kill the rematch, in the hope of prolonging Conor's career. Another loss to Diaz and Conor might retire.
Alright then $50K. $25K to fight and another $25K to win. That's what the highest paying non-championship undercard fight was worth at UFC 196. The point being that if McGregor wants the rematch and a big paycheck he needs to put in the time to promote it in order to earn the big check. If he really wants the rematch. I think he'd be stupid to fight Diaz at 170 lbs again because I wouldn't expect a different result. 155 maybe but then at 155 I'd rather see him fight Dos Anjos or Cerrone. I think most of the contenders at 170 are going to hand him his ass.
