6 years of physical, emotional, and sexual abuse because of this exact sentiment. Sometimes a little bit of validation is all it takes, just one person to say "it's okay to leave", but instead many communities only get disgusting scumbags like Kirk Cameron. My parents, family, my church family, pastor, marriage counselor....all I heard over and over was that is was my fault, I wasn't being submissive enough, I wasn't a good enough wife/Christian/woman, I should try harder.
This is why I can't not hate Christianity. I don't hate Christians but I hate Christianity. If even a tiny portion of your group promotes this kind of idea, your group fucking sucks.
