I've heard that people commonly use too much shaving cream. I guess the idea is to apply a thin enough layer to lube the skin and raise the hairs. Too much and you don't get the same effect. Maybe you using soap is getting that thin yet lathered layer effect? At any rate, you're saving some coin.

Usually shave with an electric, but often find I'm using bics when I'm away on holiday.
