He wasn't a pious Christian. He was almost certainly a theist, but he didn't attend services or otherwise abide by any Christian doctrine.

Sounds like a No-True Scotsman type argument. He was most certainly a pious Christian, read Mien Kampf.
If the hypothetical idea of an afterlife means more to you than the objectively true reality we all share, then you deserve no respect.
