So if you had a house guest who plopped his ass down on your couch and started telling you that he didn't like the color of your carpets and your furniture was shitty and why on earth were you serving lamb for dinner, you'd just sit there and take it?

Big difference between a private home and a public place like a schoolroom. If someone complained about how I cooked the lamb, I'd have told them they didn't have to eat it (unless I fucked up the cooking). If someone complained about my decor, I'd have told them to not let the door hit them on the way out.

Schoolrooms are different as they are not a private setting, there is stuff you're allowed to get away with in private that are unacceptable in public, like forcing students to do something with no utulity.
