Scotch. I love the way the flavors of a good scotch ripen in the mouth and bloom back up after you swallow. I love the mellow sort of drunk it causes because you're sipping it slowly - it's warm and comfortable. I like that when I drink it with some of my fellow scotch-loving friends, we can sit in companionable silence, sometimes holding hands or leaning against each other, and it's not sexualized at all. We're just quiet, savoring all the smoke and sweetness, and each other's presence.
Gardening. I love the moist, fertile smell of potting soil, especially if the bag is sun-warmed, and the tiny promises in every seed bag. It strikes a spiritual chord in me that inside every one of those small pods is the entirety of a plant capable of producing a hundred more like it. I love the thrill when seeds sprout, and the first whiff of green aroma filling the air when they're large enough to release their oils when watered.
I love my dog. I love how he smells and his little doggy breath kisses and his companionship. He's a jerk sometimes, but I guess so am I so we're even. I love how our personalities mesh, and the unique fuzzy comfort that is "My Dog" - that one dog that just 'gets' you.
I really love crocheting. There's something soothing in the endless repetition of loops on loops which ends up being something useful - a scarf or mug cozy or hat or mitts. It's a good way to quiet my brain down when I need to do something that isn't strenuous, but gives me a sense of accomplishment anyway. I like how the yarn feels sliding through my fingers, and the quick flit of the hook when I get into a good rhythm.
