Its a controversial issue for many reasons. Firstly, woman with this condition have argued that its a hormone problem therefore it shouldn't be listed in the DSM as a mental illness yet one of the prescribed treatments for it are antidepressants.
Secondly, it apparently fuels the stigma on woman being bitches during their periods and many feminists have a problem acknolging that woman can be bitchy during that time.
As a result of both of these stigmas, woman are left undertreated and untreated as the system fails to acknowledge the condition and often writes them off as having mental illnesses.
Atheists want proof of things, yet there is no real significant proof for the condition, just a bunch of woman saying they feel depressed or suicidal during their periods and some evidence of brain changes
The theory is progesterone allergy/intolerance but it's not like there is any standard testing for it. The diagnosis is still clinical
