I agree with you skipper that in order to do some of these programs, being dependent on advertisement is a cause for concern (biting the hand that feeds you and all that), and it is a very little known fact that some programs the BBC greenlighted were so expensive no commercial company would ever have invested in them. Only when these programs turn out to be a TV success, other channels get interested in them and do a knock-off version of it for half the budget.
My son LOVES 'Robot Wars'!!! So much . I'll have a word with him. He STILL watches it!
