I'd install Mint if I installed a Linux, I reckon. It seems the most n00b friendly.
No install required. The live CD boots and runs from the CD. Never even touches your hard drive. Lets you load it, play with it, run it. Then pull the CD out, reboot and your Windows install is exactly as you left it. Of course will run much slower running from the CD than it would from the hard drive. But it lets you see what the install will look like and explore how everything works without changing your hard drive in the slightest.
