I would like to expand on this by warning all foreigners to be very, VERY careful while visiting New Zealand. The natives here say things like 'Please' and 'Thank you' and actually seem to mean it, which can be unnerving to those not used to it (threw me off when I first got here).
And never, EVER look an EnZed directly in the eye. They will take this as a warm friendly gesture, and immediately invite you for tea or coffee. This will quickly escalate into a situation you couldn't prise yourself out of with a crowbar and a team of sled dogs.
