I would, and I did, but I'm now feeling more and more that it's not worth the aggro to argue or even debate, at all, with them about religion. More and more I'm looking at the theist posts on this site and just ignoring them outright as not worth responding to or even wasting time thinking about. I'm sorry if that sounds like a cop out but we only get one life and I'd rather not spend it arguing, to no avail whatsoever, with deluded people who won't budge an inch no matter what you say.
I basically agree that it's almost always futile to try to debate a believer. (At least online there's a text history of the exchange, which makes it harder for them to deny what they said.) What form my activism takes is a constant issue. I guess it mainly takes the form of sharing the more serious atheist memes on Facebook. I rarely share things that ridicule religion (though occasionally can't help myself). More often I'll share memes that quote famous and respected people as a way of keeping people thinking about the subject. The trend (except in Indonesia, where Islam is growing via poplulation growth), is a decline in belief (due to unstoppable information). I just want to try and hasten that trend by continuously reminding believers that belief is illogical, divisive, unfair, etc. I certainly try to avoid being an "asshole" about it. I would like to show that atheists are serious and concerned for the future of the planet and our lives on it. Atheism is the most compassionate and realistic stance.
