RE: Mother and son in New Mexico face jail time for incestuous relationship

I've got an old friend who was divorced and single for the longest time. She dated her fair share. We had a small fling at one point even but she just could not find anyone she truly connected with. Then I caught up with her at a get-together of mutual friends and found that she was paired and absolutely in love. It was and is a real soul-mate kind of thing. You know, the real deal. Staying up and chatting over wine after everyone else had turned in for the evening, she confided in me that the one thing not many people knew about her new love was that he was her cousin.
I gave her an inquisitive and probably somewhat cross look. In so many words she said look, I'm 51 and he's 45. Even if we wanted kids, which neither of us do, it ain't never gonna happen. And he's the one. He's the one that gets me. He's the one that makes me feel whole. He's the one that matters. He's the one that makes me happier than I think I've ever been. I gave her a big warm hug and said congratulations. Who am I to argue with that or try to deny her access to it? Who is anyone to argue with it?
