Should We Eradicate Mosquitos?

There's a community in the Florida Keys that is steadfastly against releasing genetically altered mosquitos into the area which would reduce the population of mosquitos and I don't understand why. I would be all for it if I lived there.

Unfounded GMO fear. Might mutate into Mothra!

Could be a Florida thing. The rumors about Florida being home to a lot of crazies is true. 

I will give credit to Miami Beach, though, for not ignoring climate change. They are investing hundreds of millions in infrastructure to keep the rising sea levels from encroaching on the city. There are few if any climate change deniers in that city. Also, protecting their massive tourist industry is a concern, I'm sure.
