The mixing could be a tad better. I can barely hear the rhythm guitar. Maybe you could add more to the chord progression after the distortion kicks in, perhaps some added rhythm or perhaps throw a few more chords in there.
Upon 2nd listen:
The singer could emphasize the words a tad more to make it sound less mumbly, in the intro. More string bends in the solos would be nice.
Upon 3rd listen:
It needs bass.
Conclusion:
Overall the song is good, it just needs better mixing, more emotion in the solos (especially the first one), and perhaps maybe a tad more added to the rhythm maybe.
Yeh mixing is tough.
The singer and the other band member have both been telling me about adding layers to the rhythm part but it's been my stylistic decision as the guitarist to keep it as pretty much one layer.
This is purely because the guitar rhythm is very punchy, sort of Spanish sounding, I don't want that sound to be compromised.
To me it's sort of like flamenco style with distortion, I might be only one who sees it that way I don't know, but that's my logic.
The first guitar fill was actually down to me constantly being asked to add guitar layers and fills, I put that in there being skeptical of how it would sound but decided to keep it as I thought it fit surprisingly well, again sounding slightly like distorted flamenco.
I'll definitely look into the bass, I don't want to piss bass players off.
I'm not the best at mixing like I said but it sounds sort of ok to me, I play it full blast in my car sometimes aswell as quietly so I can hear it from all different perspectives. I know I'll go thru it a few times though yet, and give it some touch ups, hopefully this will clean things up a bit.
Thanks for taking the time to listen to it.
Are you ready for the fire? We are firemen. WE ARE FIREMEN! The heat doesn’t bother us. We live in the heat. We train in the heat. It tells us that we’re ready, we’re at home, we’re where we’re supposed to be. Flames don’t intimidate us. What do we do? We control the flame. We control them. We move the flames where we want to. And then we extinguish them.
Impersonation is treason.
