So when your kid asks why that man is choking that woman, you tell them that it's ok in this instance because she's really a mutant and he's from the olden days and.....isn't it hard enough having to explain to them why there's a man hanging on a cross all over the place.
Uh no. If I were in that position, I would give my child an answer about the movie. Give them the context. Not simply "It's okay because she's a mutant." But I wouldn't say "Look away, jonny. That poster is sexist."
The poster is vague, yes. That's probably one of the arguments against it. But If I see no evidence to prove beyond a shadow of a doubt some god figure exists, I see no reason to believe in one. A vague book isn't going to be enough to prove to me one exists. The same thing applies to this poster. Unless there is some explicit proof beyond a shadow of a doubt that this poster is sexist, I see no reason to think of it that way. The poster says "Only the strong will survive." I acknowledge that. But I still see no reason to believe, just because it's a guy strangling a woman, that it's sexist.
If pinkie pie isn't real, then how do you explain the existence of ponies, huh? If ponies are real, then that's proof that Pinkie Pie is real. Checkmate, christians!
