As I understand it, the Brexit movement is largely based on the xenophobic right wing rhetoric. People don't want Muslims in the country. But some members who opposed Brexit also seem to talk badly about Islam. Majority of Muslims hold views that Westerners perceive as backwards, and even though very few overall are likely to carry out terrorist attacks, they are quite likely to support them. Only 30% of British Muslims say they would contact the authorities if they knew of a jihadist in the country. Over half of British Muslims think homosexuality should be outlawed and nearly a third support instituting Sharia law in the UK.
So if an ethnic group with these sorts of beliefs is flooding the country, what is the UK to do? Could they have reached an immigration compromise with the EU instead of leaving altogether?
Thing is, calling the number of muslims entering Britain a flood is like calling a single drop of rain hitting your head a torrential downpour. Also most muslims in the UK are second, third or even more immigrants. They've as much right to be called natives as the von Saxe Coburg und Gothas.
