Maybe I didn't clarify enough, but I what I meant to say is that only jihad is to be undertaken for self-defense, not beheading. Jihad is forbidden against non-combatants and those who allow us to follow the religion, as the Quran states, "Thus, if they let you be, and do not make war on you, and offer you peace, God does not allow you to harm them" (4:90). Therefore, jihad is only right when we are being attacked first (which is for self-defense). The Quran doesn't say that we have to do beheading, but just that it is allowed in a time of war including any other method of killing to defeat the enemy.

Such actions of the Taliban are being carried out mainly for the purpose of instilling fear and control over the Muslims. Attacking school girls with acid is something that almost every Muslim would find un-Islamic except for the the Taliban themselves. Although yes, the Taliban will say that those who disagree with them are not true Muslims, or that they don't have faith, but this doesn't mean that their actions are justified either.
