I think that article calling her "black" must have been mis-representing her. Algerians (like all North Africans) are either Arabs, Copts or Berbers typically. I got Maltese relatives darker than her who call themselves "white".
If the people are that offended at the lack of black and minority role models on their course then I suggest they take a different course, perhaps one in African history? Just a thought.
Also getting into university in this country is not hard or (since you get it all paid for by loans that you don't have to pay back if you can't afford) something that is unaffordable, even to a working class and/or minority person.
