Then it is still living in the past. I mean, the forum I use and have been using for more than 7 years still has this policy of banning members if and when requested. This can be due to the poster feeling out of place, out of their depth, or they have studies to do. A temporary ban still happens ven to this day, with the shortest temporary ban of 3 months to the longest which was 12 months (given to a poster who had a Masters to do.)
Just to clarify: it is perfectly ok to ask to be banned. Only be aware that the answer is going to be "no".
