Idealism as argued is the notion that the world is made up of the ideas you have in your head. It doesn't matter that this is not idealism any more than the various descriptions of materialism we've been offered are not materialism. That's how people take both concepts, and clearly that's how they pit them against each other in their minds, whatever -those- are made of.
I see layers: There is the world/reality. There is what I overlay on top of that as my understanding/expectation/simulacrum of reality. Then there is the harmonious or disharmonious interaction between them.
Like a roller coaster: One passenger is elated to be there and their body produces hormones of pleasure. The same ride for a different passenger is terrifying and their body produces hormones of stress.
