Same reasons offered, from the same traditions, same needlessness, same lack of any roundly demonstrable benefit - both genital mutilation done..by adults, to infants.....but one is a no go, and the other we don't give a shit about.  Or, in fact, find ourselves arguing -for-.

Well that would be a good parallel if they were threatening to remove the best/most sensitive bits.  But they're only looking to remove the protective blankey.

But more to your point, no I don't think modern law should respect tribal custom in the area of clit removal. Do you know of any countries that attach the same injunction to circumcision?
