This isn't sanctimony. This is conversation. I'm not saying staff is bad for the decision they've made, I'm saying I don't think it's a smart decision and it will harm the forum. There's a difference.
And what you apparently don't get is that we, as a matter of staff consensus, would prefer to shut the whole thing down than compromise on core principles.
Whether we would lose members over a policy was not part of the calculus nor will it likely ever be.
If acting with integrity isn't smart, then I for one am happy to be counted amongst the stupid.
I'm about done with this issue, frankly.
