Possibly a fair assessment overall, but I think there will always be exceptions.
It's well known now that George W. Bush was an avid supporter of "consulting god" while in the White House. He even implied in an interview after his presidency that he believed god wants all men to be free and thus America's military was acting under righteous direction when we invaded Iraq. (and other parts of the middle east)
However, I did not address religion's influence on the oval office in this particular OP. I was thinking purely politics on this thread.
