True, Rev, that the Republicans are disassociating themselves from Trump, but you know as well as I that if Trump had employed dog whistle statements instead of open bigotry that they'd all be supporting him 100%. And seeing the number of Trump campaign signs around my neck of the woods, it looks like many people are perfectly fine with all the awful things he says. So there will still be a home for bigotry in the Republican Party for some time to come, but they'll never win the White House with it.
In terms that will make sense to anyone as familiar with Dostoevsky as I am, Trump has become the Svidrigailoff to the RNC's Raskolnikov, but I can't see that many Republicans willing to play the part of Sonia.
It's blindingly obvious that the only way the Republican Party can survive is by taking a good, hard, look at themselves, really try to figure out where things went wrong besides "they choked!," and actually attempt to rectify them. That said, as the increasingly radical nature of the Republican Party has demonstrated, not that many are likely to even try it.
