OK looking back at it I misunderstood what you meant. I didn't read it as "do you mind" but you were trying to say something along the lines of "The mind is providing a reference"
No reference I'm afraid. Just a hypothesis based on my understanding of neuroscience based on reading many books in the area. But you were asking for me to come up for a reason for something (my bold).
