Why is some people feel that the one who shouts the loudest wins the argument?

IF YOU SHOUT LOUD ENOUGH, YOU WON'T BE ABLE TO HEAR YOUR OPPONENTS REFUTE YOUR ARGUMENTS! THIS WAY NO ONE CAN HEAR THE OTHER GUY SPEAKING!

If you watch "World's Worst Drivers" you'll see a very even spread of loud-mouthed argumentative types, so no, it's not a male thing. It's an asshole thing.

I used to work for State Farm Insurance, handling auto claims. One accident involved a young lady pulling out of a parking aisle into the main traffic route. She hit another car. When I called that claim in favor of the other driver her boyfriend called up and started yelling at me. I put the phone on the desk, went for coffee, and he was still yelling when I got back. I'm not sure if he thought yelling at me would change my mind or he was doing it to please his main squeeze. But those folks just don't seem to realize that volume isn't equal to probity.
