Please do me a favour, read the books of Bart D Ehrman. Starting with Jesus: Apocalyptic Prophet of the New Millennium, then Jesus Misquoted, then Jesus Interrupted and finally Forged. Which introduces what higher critical studies of the New Testament have found out about the reliability (or lack therefore) of it in the past 200 years.

Since a lot of people don't know about this, they are often surprised by the fact that Paul did not write some of the letters traditionally attributed to him) and how later scribes altered new testament texts to combat other Christian groups they saw as heretical.
