Yeah it came from the internet cesspool that is 4chan. 'Rolling' was creating a thread with an enticing title and thumbnail and then all that was inside was a picture of a duck on wheels. Sort of a proto-clickbait. Rick Rolling was an evolution of that, in that instead of a picture, it's a video with that white boy dancing like he means it.
